Getting started with your program
Okay. Let's get going! Based on the answers you provided in your athlete questionnaire and our phone conversations, I'll begin prescribing your workout sessions. If you haven't yet scheduled an initial phone conversation, follow this link to set it up. This is entirely optional of course, but the more I know about your goals and expectation, the better I can tailor your coaching.
Almost all of our interactions will take place within the Training Peaks application, so the first thing we'll need to do is get you set up there:
You may be already using Training Peaks or have done so in the past. If this is the case, please click on this link to link your existing account to our coaching program. Having an existing account that I can access enables me to see any completed workouts you have done and make an initial calculation of your FTP (functional Threshold Power) and your threshold heart rate. I'll then be able to calculate your training zones. Later, we'll adjust these values through analyzing your most recent workout data, or by having you complete an FTP test. If you don't have an existing Training Peaks account, I'll get you setup and email you the details.
To get the most out of the Training Peaks application, you'll be using a 'premium' account. This account type allows us better communication options, as well as giving you better access to your own training metrics. If you already have a basic account, a premium upgrade is included with your coaching program.
Communicating with Your Coach
I'll need to know about changes to your work schedule and other commitments that effect how I plan out your week. You can mark days off as unavailable or leave general notes right there on the TrainingPeaks calendar. It is also vital that you give as much feedback as you can about the workouts you've completed, so that I'm able to adjust your training load if necessary. Almost all of our interaction will take place from within the application, and we'll both get email notifications if either of us has left a comment or added an item to the calendar.
As a loose rule, I'd like to keep our phone consultations to once every two weeks. If everything is going steady it can be less frequent if you desire. Under special circumstances, for example just prior to a race or event, we can schedule in an extra consultation. Please always use my scheduling tool to set up a phone consultation.
Paying for Your Program
You will receive an invoice and a payment link at the beginning of each monthly block of training that will be due in advance of the following month's services. You can pay by ACH bank transfer (preferred) or by credit card. Partial month services will not be prorated. You may cancel or suspend your account at anytime, but I ask for 8 days notice so that I don't work on building workouts that you won't need.
Working in Training Peaks
If you already have an account with Training Peaks, or have used it in the past, you'll be familiar with its basic operation. Working with a coach will unlock the true potential of the application. Check out the video below to see how we'll use TrainingPeaks as a team. It covers the basics of how you'll work with us to add events, notes, availability, and workout feedback. For more detailed information about other aspects of the program, including training metrics such as NP, IF, TSS, CTL, ATL, and others, there are great articles to be found at Training Peaks Education Center.
